The Clients Requirements
We were honoured to be commissioned to restore the original luster of the twentieth-century buildings that line Old Town Street, showcasing numerous architectural features conceived by Patrick Abercrombie after the war. Our specialised cleaning services excel in the thorough removal of robust carbon deposits and contaminants from the delicate Portland stone structures, ensuring the preservation and enhancement of the historic architectural splendour.
The Solution
Given the unique composition, conditions, and contaminants present on each surface, we meticulously researched and tested various methods to achieve optimal results without harming the delicate stone beneath. Our approach involved employing a superheated steam cleaning system in combination with a tailored selection of poultices to effectively lift deposits from the surfaces, all without resorting to harsh power washing or chemical treatments. This revitalisation not only restored the stone to its former glory but also effectively halted further decay caused by carbon contamination buildup.
